ReachMobi would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Edgar Meruvia Garron for receiving the Student of the Year award from Florida Gulf Coast University. Edgar received this honor after being nominated by his peers, becoming the Software Engineering Student of the Year. Typically, the University gives four such awards: one to each major within the engineering department.
Edgar recently graduated from FGCU after an exemplary academic showing. During a career fair while attending the University, Edgar encountered ReachMobi for the first time. While still studying, Edgar became an Android Engineer Intern for the company. Then, shortly after graduation, he transitioned to working for the company full-time as one of our Android Engineers.
Edgar’s exemplary academic showing is highlighted by his skill as a software engineer. For instance, Edgar took home first place at the National Hackathon in Florida Atlantic University in 2018, first place at the Hackathon in the University of Florida and the Hertz-Hackathon in 2019. In addition, he often contributes to open-source code for Github.
According to Edgar, his work as a teacher’s assistant is part of what drove him to perform at such a high level. In his own words, “By doing activities such as peer-programming, code reviews, and homework grading I was able to feel the passion and thrive of these students which only motivated me to push harder into my studies.”
“After successfully finishing a use case study, I was able to land my first internship as an Android Engineer in a local company, ReachMobi, and if that weren’t enough that same weekend my team and I won 1st place in a National Hackathon, MangoHacks 2018 hosted in FIU. That weekend was a key deciding factor in my career.”
Imagine being a college student, balancing time between your studies, your internship and numerous coding competitions. All of this was balanced against Edgar’s duties as a teacher’s assistant, helping grade his peers’ work and reviewing their code. It’s little surprise, then, that Edgar’s peers voted on him as Software Engineering Student of the Year.
In short, ReachMobi wants to extend its most sincere congratulations to the hard work and accomplishments of our very own Edgar Meruvia Garron. Let him be an example for how much one can accomplish with enough passion and dedication! We’re lucky to have Edgar on the team, and we look forward to working with him.
